Whoa. Could this really be America's littlest sweetheart, Miss Shirley Temple, gleefully succumbing to homicidal impulses? Surely this picture is a fake, or the remnant of some wacko director's idea of between-take camaraderie? Nope, it's an actual screen grab from an actual movie. I leave it to you, dear readers, to name it.

My grandmother showed me this movie years ago. Some images just stick. Shirley Temple with a knife is one of them!

You know, to this day you can't reprint that Graham Greene essay, where he deduced an unsavory aspect to Shirley's relationship with her daddy figures. The family sued and it's enjoined, so far as I know, for all time. Pity, because that frame grab alone kind of makes Greene's point for him.
(And I love Shirley Temple. Truly)
